Khyber College of Dentistry, Peshawar

  • Department of Paediatric Dentistry

The department of Paediatric Dentistry (Paedodontics) started in 1993. Due to lack of space, the department was initially housed in Orthodontics department. There was only a single staff member who had to look after the patients as well as teaching to the final year students. The department was moved to its present premises in the year 2000. The new premises, though separate is not spacious. There are only five dental units. At the moment, one professor and two lecturers are working in the department while the positions of Senior Registrar and Associate Professor are lying vacant. Practical training is given in the department to the final year students as well as house officers.

    Postgraduate Training

As it is a tertiary care hospital, all the Paediatric dental procedures are carried out in the department. Very young and uncooperative children are treated under general anesthesia. Postgraduate course (Diploma in Clinical Dentistry) in Paediatric Dentistry is also started from January 2012. Only one candidate will be inducted every year in this program.
